Eleven-year follow-up shows for extremely premature children are three times more psychiatric disorders in term neonates

Significant advances in neonatal intensive care have led to increased survival rates of babies born under 26 weeks of gestation, the so-called children who are extremely premature. In particular, however, survival rates have improved accompanied by a higher risk of cognitive impairment after neuromotor and sensory in these children.The researchers found that almost one quarter of extremely premature children’s psychiatric disorder at age 11. The conditions were the most common psychiatric disorder of attention , emotional disorders , and autism spectrum disorders . The survey also indicates a risk three times more global issues future of these children were born prematurely. The findings of British researchers have reported in the May 2010 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child Psychiatry.
